Currently, herders in Lebap Province are actively wintering their livestock in the Karakum and Kyzylkum deserts, as well as on the slopes of the Köýtendag mountains. They are preparing for the lambing and kidding season.
In five farms belonging to the province’s Livestock and Poultry Production Association, more than 50,880 sheep and goats are being wintered. Dedicated herders consistently achieve their annual lambing and kidding plans. Last season, 39,736 lambs were obtained from 43,406 ewes, achieving 103% of the plan.
This year, preparations are underway to obtain offspring without losses. Intensive work is ongoing in the farms “Tallymerjen” (Döwletli), “Jeyhun” (Saýat), “Garagum” (Halaç), “Köýtendag” (Köýtendag), and “Serdar” (Çärjew). Herders in Halaç plan to get more than 100 lambs from every 100 ewes.
Ewes are kept in warm barns at night. During cold days, they are provided with prepared fodder and warm water from wells 60–70 meters deep. Over 11,000 tons of feed have been prepared for additional winter feeding.
All hired shepherds are experienced herders who work tirelessly from the first days of the year, contributing significantly to the development of the livestock sector.
