According to data from Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the volume of Afghanistan's exports to Central Asian countries increased by an unprecedented 77% in 2025. Consequently, exports rose from $122 million to $216 million. These figures are the result of Kabul’s active diplomatic and trade cooperation with neighboring states in the region. In this partnership, Turkmenistan acts as a vital logistical bridge.
Regional Trade Figures and Data Afghanistan's total trade turnover with its northern neighbors shows a steady growth trend. Imports from Central Asian countries also increased by 43% (mainly electricity, natural gas, and petroleum products), Ariana News reports. The bulk of goods imported from the region consists of essential resources for a country facing energy shortages. At the same time, the rapid growth in exports is seen as a positive signal for Afghan producers, particularly in the agriculture, mining, and light industry sectors.
Transport Connectivity: The Role of Turkmenistan Analysts note that the success of Afghanistan's trade expansion is directly linked to the development of railway connections and transport corridors linking South and Central Asia. The simplification of customs regulations and transit conditions has allowed exporters to significantly reduce costs. Given the limited access to Western financial systems, Kabul is focusing heavily on strengthening trade relations with its immediate neighbors.
