A meeting was held at the International Information Center of Turkmenistan between Annasahat Kakaev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, and Ambassador of Canada Christopher Duggan.
The talks marked the launch of large-scale projects aimed at introducing artificial intelligence into journalism, expanding academic exchange, and strengthening the capacity of mass media across the Central Asian region.
One of the key areas of cooperation will be the partnership between HEC Montréal Business School and Turkmenistan’s leading higher education institutions — Magtymguly Turkmen State University and the Institute of International Relations. The cooperation program includes webinars, master classes, and visits by Canadian professors to Ashgabat.
Upon completion of the training programs, students and professionals will be able to receive joint certificates confirming their mastery of modern media management and communication research methods.
Special attention was paid to environmental journalism and the training of young professionals. In cooperation with the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH), a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing media literacy on environmental issues is planned.
In addition, joint interregional projects will be launched together with the TVTM television channel to familiarize digital content creators with global industry standards. A key event of this partnership will be the “Media Week” in Ashgabat, focusing on the role of artificial intelligence in media, digital storytelling, and program production.
The current agreements are a continuation of the Turkmen delegation’s working visit to Canada in August 2025, during which representatives of Turkmenistan studied the experience of CBC and leading Canadian universities, laying the foundation for professional development programs and joint educational courses.
The implementation of these initiatives will provide Turkmen specialists with access to advanced global technologies and enable them to actively contribute to shaping the region’s modern information agenda.
