
From February 23 to 25, 2026, the Germany–Central Asia Forum on Higher Education and Science is being held in Halle, Germany, aimed at developing cooperation in the field of education, science, and innovation. The forum events are taking place at the headquarters of the German National Academy of Sciences "Leopoldina."
On February 23, a round table was held with the participation of Markus Player, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Aerospace of Germany, and the Ambassadors of Central Asian states to the FRG. Following the meeting, a Joint Declaration on cooperation in science, research, and innovation within the Z5+1 format was signed, aimed at deepening long-term partnership. On behalf of Turkmenistan, the document was signed by B. Rejepov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Germany.
The opening ceremony of the forum was attended by representatives of relevant German institutions, scientific organizations, and universities, as well as the Ambassadors of Central Asian countries.
Ambassador B. Rejepov, in his speech, noted Turkmenistan's achievements in higher education and science, drawing attention to the importance of strengthening cooperation between Germany and Central Asian countries.
The speech by Manfred Nawroth, Vice President of the German Cultural Council and Deputy Managing Director of the German Archaeological Association, drew particular interest. He noted the significant contribution of German scientists to archaeological research in Central Asian countries. In particular, the significance and uniqueness of Turkmenistan's archaeological monuments—Nisa, Gonur Depe, and Merv—were emphasized.
Within the framework of the forum, issues such as the implementation of joint scientific projects, academic accessibility, support for young scientists, and the introduction of innovative solutions are being discussed. The hosting of this forum confirmed the strategic nature of scientific and educational interaction between the Central Asian countries and the Federal Republic of Germany.
