
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, held a meeting in Brussels with Maya Bakran Marcich, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport. During the meeting, the parties discussed the future of transport connectivity, issues regarding the development of the Trans-Caspian route, and the preparation of practical agreements for the possible visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the EU capital.
During the meeting, the development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics between Turkmenistan and the European Union was discussed, including the creation of sustainable interaction mechanisms between relevant structures. This was reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.
The interlocutors confirmed the increasing importance of the Trans-Caspian transport corridor as one of the most promising communication routes between Europe and Asia.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of creating an institutional framework for mutual cooperation in the transport sector from a practical perspective, in the form of a memorandum of understanding, a roadmap, or another framework document.
The parties particularly expressed interest in opportunities for cooperation with international financial institutions and development banks, including partnering with the European Investment Bank in the field of transport infrastructure.
On the same day, the Turkmen ambassador held a working meeting in Brussels with Jan Dusik, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action. At the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for developing solar energy and cross-border energy infrastructure. The European side highly valued Turkmenistan's potential in light of the growing demand for clean electricity.
