Turkmen Weightlifters Win 16 Medals at the 6th International Fajr Cup in Tehran
Turkmen weightlifters returned with excellent results from the 6th International Fajr Cup held in Tehran, the capital of Iran. The news was reported by the Turkmenistan newspaper.
In the competition, which brought together around 40 athletes from 7 countries, Turkmen weightlifters won 10 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
The tournament featured some of the strongest lifters from Iran, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. Several Turkmen athletes earned three gold medals each. One of them competed in the lightest weight category — up to 60 kg. Representing the national team, Seyitjan Mirzayev lifted 124 kg in the snatch, 150 kg in the clean and jerk, and achieved a total of 274 kg, becoming a triple gold medalist.
The 25-year-old weightlifter Bunyod Rashidov also returned from Tehran with three gold medals. Competing in the 71 kg category, he lifted 150 kg in the snatch, 165 kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 315 kg.
In the 79 kg category, Gaigysyz Toreyev won gold in the clean and jerk (187 kg) and in total (332 kg), and took bronze in the snatch (145 kg).
In the 88 kg category, Galkan Rahmanov won bronze in the snatch (145 kg), while Ramazan Toreyev secured third place in the clean and jerk (176 kg). In total, Ramazan lifted 316 kg, one kilogram more than Galkan, earning the bronze medal. Rustem Annaberdiev took bronze in the snatch in the 94 kg category with 160 kg.
Competing in the 110 kg category, Dowranbek Hasanbayev won gold in the snatch (185 kg), silver in the clean and jerk (202 kg), and gold in total (387 kg).
Thus, Turkmen athletes earned a total of 16 medals at the international tournament. Although the Iranian team collected 23 medals, they won one fewer gold medal than Turkmenistan. The Uzbek team, which ranked third, completed the championship with five gold, eight silver, and two bronze medals.
