Saudi Authorities Ban Filming Near the Kaaba and Pilgrimage for Children Under 12

The authorities of Saudi Arabia have introduced a ban on photo and video recording inside the Al-Haram Mosque, including the area around the Kaaba. The restriction is already in effect for this Hajj and Umrah season.

The use of mobile phones, photo cameras, and video cameras is prohibited. Official statements explain that the ban aims to preserve the personal space of pilgrims, maintain an atmosphere of prayer and reverence, prevent the holy site from turning into a place for selfies and tourist activity, and allow worshippers to focus fully on their prayers.

Pilgrims have been warned that violating the ban may lead to confiscation of devices and the application of security measures in the holy places.

Additionally, starting from 2026, Hajj is prohibited for children under 12. Temperatures reaching 50°C, large crowds, and long distances on foot — officials state that for small children, this is not a pilgrimage but a serious risk.
