From June 1, WhatsApp Will Stop Working on Older iPhones and Android Smartphones

Starting June 1, 2025, the popular messaging app WhatsApp will no longer support devices running outdated operating systems. This update has been officially confirmed on WhatsApp’s support page.

From June 1, WhatsApp Will Stop Working on Older iPhones and Android Smartphones

Who Will Be Affected?

The following users will be affected:

Owners of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and 5s (iOS 15.0 or lower)

Users of smartphones running Android 4.4 (KitKat) or earlier

To continue using WhatsApp, your device must have:

Android 5.0 Lollipop or later

iOS 15.1 or later

How to check your OS version:

Android: Settings → System → About Phone → System Version

iPhone: Settings → General → About

If your device does not meet these requirements, WhatsApp will stop working. The app will notify users in advance before the deadline.

Why This Change?

Ending support for older platforms allows WhatsApp to enhance security, improve stability, and introduce new features. The original end-of-support date was May 5, 2025, but it was extended to June 1 to give users more time to upgrade or back up their data.

What You Can Do if You Have an Old Device:

Try updating your operating system, if possible

Consider switching to a newer device

Back up important chats via iCloud or Google Drive

Stay connected — update your phone to keep using WhatsApp without interruption.
