Personalized car license plates to be allowed in Uzbekistan
The Government of Uzbekistan has approved the introduction of personalized state license plates for vehicles. Starting in 2026, car owners will be able to use combinations of up to six letters or numbers, provided they do not duplicate existing plates or violate legal and moral norms.
From January 1, 2026, citizens of Uzbekistan will be able to purchase unique license plates made up of letters and numbers.
According to the decree, the state enterprise “Uzavtomotobelgi” has been granted the right to issue such plates through open electronic auctions.
The unique plates may include up to six letters and/or digits but must not repeat existing ones or contain words contrary to law or public morals.
“This means that cars with license plates such as ‘SARVAR’, ‘AZIZA’, ‘ODIL’ or ‘BUXORO’ may soon appear on the roads,” UzA noted.
Back in 2019, a proposal to introduce personalized license plates was raised on the Mening Fikrim public opinion portal. The petition’s author pointed out that this practice exists in many countries and could provide additional revenue to the state budget.
Currently, the website avtoraqam.uzex.uz offers only so-called “beautiful” number plates through auctions that fit standard formats. The petition has gathered more than 900 votes so far. According to regulations, once 10,000 signatures are collected, the proposal is submitted to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis for review.
It is noted that Kyrgyzstan has allowed personalized license plates since 2012.
