China demonstrates jetpack in action
A team of engineers from the Huzhou Research Institute at Zhejiang University has successfully tested a jetpack that allows a person to move through the air.
According to Report, citing China Central Television, the pilot operating this personal flying device can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h.
“It took three to four years to develop this jetpack, and two years for flight testing. This is our most advanced and mature system,” said Jiao Bojing, an engineer from the JetRob team, who performed a short demonstration flight.
The device is equipped with five jet engines, with fuel tanks located on both sides of the pack. It weighs 31 kg, and 46 kg when fully fueled. The pilot can remain in the air for three to five minutes. The jetpack can rise more than 2 meters above the ground and can be used in areas up to 1,500 meters above sea level.
According to Jiao Bojing, it takes some time to learn how to control the jetpack safely and smoothly, much like learning to ride a bicycle. In the future, he added, humanoid robots may be able to operate jetpacks, performing flights in dangerous or hard-to-reach locations.
