In October 2025, due to intensified solar activity, geomagnetic fluctuations continue to occur. The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported the third geomagnetic storm of the month.

Causes of the Storm:
According to experts, the disturbances are caused by coronal holes on the Sun’s surface, through which high-speed solar wind flows toward Earth. This is not the first such event in October:

  • October 1–3 — the first storm

  • October 12 — the second storm

  • October 18 — the third storm has begun

During the night and morning of October 18, the Sun released four M-class flares, which are of significant strength. The latest flare, M1.32, lasted from 09:50 to 10:04 Moscow time.

Impact on Earth:
Scientists assess this storm as moderate, with no strong magnetic field disturbances expected. However, a mild geomagnetic storm was deemed inevitable. Conditions are expected to stabilize by midday on October 20, followed by about a week of calm.

Conclusion:
Changes in the solar corona and frequent flares influence Earth’s magnetic field, potentially affecting the health of sensitive individuals, satellite systems, and radio communication. People with cardiovascular issues are advised to take extra care during such periods.
