International Chess Tournament Among Young Players Kicks Off in Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the opening of the tournament and congratulated the young chess players and guests. According to the President, this international tournament is not only a sports competition but also an important cultural and sporting event that promotes peace, friendship, and mutual understanding among nations.

Young chess players from several countries are participating in the tournament. This competition not only strengthens Turkmenistan's position in the international sports community but also provides an opportunity to discover and develop the talents of young athletes.

The improvement of Turkmenistan's sports infrastructure, particularly the modern sports complexes built in Ashgabat and Arkadag, creates favorable conditions for the successful organization of such events. Ashgabat, which has been declared "The City of New Sports Opportunities," is a result of the large-scale reforms in this area.

The historical significance of chess in Turkmen culture was also highlighted. Chess, known historically as "sadranç" and "shahmat," has developed into a sport that supports the intellectual and spiritual development of youth. According to experts, children who engage with chess at an early age tend to have higher mental development and better logical thinking skills.

The international chess tournament will last for several days. Such competitions not only lead to success in sports but also contribute to gaining international experience, fostering friendly relationships, and spreading the importance of sports in society.
