17-year-old winger Lamine Yamal, who plays for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, received the Laureus World Sports Award 2025 in the "Breakthrough of the Year" category. The award’s press office announced the news via the social platform X.

This season, Yamal has played a vital role in Barcelona’s success. He scored 6 goals and made 12 assists in La Liga, and also netted 3 goals in the Champions League. In the summer of 2024, he became the youngest-ever player to participate in the European Championship at the age of 16, and the day after turning 17, he helped lead his team to victory in the tournament.

Last year, the award in this category went to Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. Winners of the Laureus awards are chosen by an international panel of judges made up of renowned athletes from around the world.
