The Central Bank of Turkmenistan Introduced a New 200-Manat Banknote
The Central Bank of Turkmenistan has introduced a new 200-manat polymer banknote into circulation starting from December 1, as well as modified banknotes of 1, 5, and 10 manats. This was reported by the “Watan” news program, citing a press release from the country’s main bank.
The introduction of the new banknotes is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan gaining the status of permanent neutrality. According to the Central Bank's press release, the main advantages of the new banknotes are their low likelihood of counterfeiting and high resistance to external impacts such as contamination, wear, and damage. Security features and visual authenticity elements have been enhanced.
The color and design of the modified 1, 5, and 10-manat banknotes have largely been preserved. They now feature the emblem of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
The front side of the new 200-manat note depicts the “Arkadag” Monument, while the reverse side shows the administrative building of the city of Arkadag’s hakimlik. All newly issued banknotes include the year of issue and the facsimile signature of the Chairman of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.
The new banknotes must be accepted at their nominal value throughout Turkmenistan by all enterprises, organizations, and institutions regardless of ownership or field of activity for all types of payments. At the same time, banknotes issued in 2009, 2012, 2014, 2017, and 2020 remain legal tender in the country.
