Turkmenistan Seeks Japanese Cooperation on Wastewater Treatment and Recycling

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed projects to improve wastewater treatment with potential reuse and to develop recycling facilities during a meeting with Japanese business leaders on Friday in Tokyo, according to official Turkmen media.

Berdimuhamedov said water conservation and efficient management of resources are among Turkmenistan’s strategic priorities. He highlighted the country’s interest in applying Japanese technologies in water treatment for industry and municipal services, as well as in expanding bilateral technological cooperation.

The president also emphasized Turkmenistan’s interest in advanced Japanese solutions for water conservation, wastewater treatment, waste management, and green and hydrogen energy. He noted that the transition to a circular economy, first discussed in April, continues to receive special attention.

Berdimuhamedov also proposed projects for a modern plant to recycle household and construction waste, as well as mini-plants for recycling plastic PET bottles and household appliances.
