Visa-free regime operates in the “Dashoguz–Shavat” border trade zone
As previously reported, during the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part via video link in the launch ceremony of the joint border trade zone “Dashoguz–Shavat”.
During the visit, the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, Nazardurdy Agahanov, and the Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, discussed practical issues related to the functioning of the joint zone. The parties agreed on the legal framework for the operation of the joint trade center, which is expected to become a platform for the growth of bilateral trade, promotion of national products, and support for entrepreneurship on both sides of the border.
The total area of the center is 6 hectares — 3 hectares on each side; if necessary, the territory may be expanded under an international agreement. Citizens of both countries can enter and exit the zone without visas.
The opening of the zone will allow entrepreneurs from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to trade freely using shared infrastructure and simplified procedures.
Following the high-level talks in Tashkent, an intergovernmental agreement on the operation of the zone was signed.
