Xabi Alonso Appointed as Real Madrid Head Coach

On May 26, 2025, Real Madrid officially announced Xabi Alonso as the new head coach of the club. The 43-year-old signed a three-year contract, valid from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028.

Alonso returns to the club where he played from 2009 to 2014, making 236 appearances and winning six trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Copa del Rey.

Prior to this appointment, Alonso successfully managed Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, leading the team to a historic 2023/24 season by winning the Bundesliga and the German Cup, as well as reaching the UEFA Europa League final.

During the presentation held at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training complex, club president Florentino Pérez praised Alonso’s deep connection with the club and expressed confidence in his ability to uphold its winning traditions.

Alonso said he feels honored and inspired by the responsibility, and is determined to build a team capable of achieving great success and delighting the fans.

His first official match as head coach will be against Al-Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup, starting on June 18 in Miami.
