Anhel Falls – One of the tallest waterfalls in the world

Angel Falls is considered one of the tallest waterfalls on Earth, standing at an impressive height of 979 meters. It is located in the rainforests of Venezuela. The waterfall was discovered in 1933 by an American aviator named Jimmie Angel, who was flying over the area in search of gold mines. In 1937, he returned and attempted to land his plane on the mountaintop, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

Locally, the waterfall is known as Kerepakupai Merú, but internationally, it is commonly referred to as Angel Falls, named after the pilot who discovered it.

Reaching Angel Falls is extremely difficult. The area is only accessible by air or by boat, traveling through the jungle rivers. When viewed from below, the waterfall appears to fall directly from the sky, though the stream actually begins from a sandstone cliff about 100 meters below the summit. This creates the illusion of a continuous stream flowing from the top.

Angel Falls is approximately 15 times taller than the famous Niagara Falls. Because of its incredible height, the water turns into mist before it can reach the ground, creating a fine spray that can be felt from kilometers away, especially in the rainy season.

The waterfall is fed by rainwater, and while its flow can be relatively weak during the dry season, it becomes a powerful and dramatic cascade during the rainy months.
