Ashgabat to Host Next CIS Heads of Government Meeting
In the first half of 2026, the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, will host the next meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This was announced by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev following the recent meeting in Minsk.
According to Lebedev, CIS member states continue to strengthen cooperation in areas such as economy, agriculture, forestry, and environmental security. The meeting in Minsk placed special emphasis on the sustainable development of the forestry sector, and a cooperation strategy in this area was approved through 2035.
Additionally, an agreement was signed on joint measures to combat locust infestations, which pose periodic threats to the region’s agriculture.
It is expected that the Ashgabat meeting will continue discussions on these and other priority areas, including the expansion of trade and economic ties and the development of infrastructure projects within the CIS framework.
