Berry Named That Helps With Prostatitis
Doctor Makhova: Lingonberry Has Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Ulyana Makhova, assistant at the Department of Outpatient Therapy of the Pirogov Medical University’s Institute of Clinical Medicine, told "Gazeta.Ru" that lingonberries can be beneficial for those with prostatitis due to their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
"First of all, lingonberries are helpful for people suffering from kidney diseases because of their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. They can also help with prostatitis. Additionally, this berry is useful for people with gastritis and low stomach acidity. In general, this berry helps with any inflammation, even with respiratory infections (ARVI)," the doctor explained.
According to Makhova, lingonberries contain large amounts of vitamin C, carotene, iron, and copper, as well as tannins, flavonoids, and methyl arbutin.
"Vitamin C boosts the immune system and protects us from ARVI and other inflammatory diseases. Arbutin has a diuretic effect, which benefits the urinary system and prevents the spread of Escherichia coli (E. coli), the most common bacteria causing urinary tract infections. Iron and B-group vitamins improve blood function and keep the body energized. Carotene supports eye health. Lingonberries are also rich in antioxidants, which may help prevent cancer," the doctor added.
