Eight boxers will represent Turkmenistan at the 3rd Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). These games are taking place in Azerbaijan and have brought together athletes under the age of 23 from 13 countries.

The CIS Games are being held across eight cities in Azerbaijan, with the boxing competitions organized at the Olympic Center in Yevlakh.

The leadership of the Boxing Federation of Turkmenistan organized a national championship among youth earlier this year, and the athletes have undergone intensive preparation for the CIS Games.

In the Turkmen team, Rahmanberdi Rejebov will compete in the lightest weight category, up to 48 kg. He became the national champion among youth in Turkmenistan earlier this year.

Hangeldi Lukmanov is competing in a new weight category up to 52 kg (light flyweight). A year ago, he participated in the Asian Youth Boxing Championship and, at 16 years old, is considered one of the main contenders for a medal.

One of the youngest members of the team is Ezbermuhammet Myratdurdyyev, who will turn 15 in December. He is already a national youth champion in the featherweight category up to 57 kg and has participated in the Asian School Boxing Championship in Al Ain, UAE.

Experienced Ashgabat boxer and national youth champion Muhammetemin Begenjov will compete in the lightweight category up to 60 kg. The CIS Games will be his first international competition.

Ashgabat’s Abdyrahman Babaev, who won silver at the 2024 national youth championship, turned that into gold this year in the light welterweight category up to 63 kg.

The team also includes Ashgabat-born Selim Meredov (born in 2010, up to 46 kg), Dayanch Oraev (up to 50 kg), and Imamjan Arslanov (up to 54 kg).

The winners of the boxing competitions at the 3rd CIS Games will be determined on October 5.
