India’s Champion Eliminated from AFC Champions League Second Round
In the 2025/26 season of the AFC Champions League second round, a situation arose in Group C — the Indian club Mohun Bagan was unable to travel to Isfahan, Iran, on September 30 for their away match against Sepahan. This led to changes in the competition schedule for the group.
Accordingly, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced the disqualification of India’s champion, Mohun Bagan Super Giant football club. This was stated in an AFC press release.
According to the requirements of Article 5.6 of the competition regulations, it was confirmed that the Kolkata-based team’s previous matches would also not be counted. To avoid confusion, in accordance with Article 8.3 of the regulations, the points and goals from Mohun Bagan’s earlier matches in Group C will also be annulled. Additionally, the Indian club will be fined.
This means that only three teams will now compete in Group C, and the points earned by our country’s team, Ahal, in their away match where they defeated Mohun Bagan 1:0 will also be voided.
Our team Ahal will play their next match on October 21, when they will host Sepahan from Iran.
