International Forum in Ashgabat on the Occasion of the 30th Anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality
Today, an International Forum is being held in the Turkmen capital on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, the International Day of Neutrality, and the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.” High-level delegations from countries around the world, as well as international and regional organizations, are participating in the event.
The legal status of permanent neutrality, recognized three times by UN General Assembly resolutions, forms the foundation of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. This legal status, supported by the international community, has strengthened the country's position as a peace-promoting state.
Positive neutrality is an active strategy based on the principles of peace and trust. The country’s foreign policy aims to promote stability, security, and mutual understanding in the region and beyond, fully in line with the principles of the United Nations.
Turkmenistan firmly adheres to international law and the UN Charter. The country’s neutrality envisions the active use of diplomatic, political, and economic instruments to prevent conflicts.
Turkmenistan’s positive neutrality in Central Asia is an important factor in regional stability and good-neighborliness. The country consistently advocates for coordinated solutions to urgent regional and international issues and for effective dialogue.
In the morning, the heads of high-level delegations participating in the International Forum laid bouquets of flowers at the Monument of Neutrality, symbolizing deep respect for Turkmenistan’s foreign policy and its legally recognized status of permanent neutrality, endorsed by special UN General Assembly resolutions.
