Nut Found That Reduces Inflammation in the Body During Obesity
Regular consumption of cashew nuts helps reduce visceral fat in teenagers without the need for strict diets or intense physical activity. This conclusion was reached by Brazilian researchers. The results were published in the journal Nutrition Research (NutriRes).
The study involved 142 obese schoolchildren from the city of Fortaleza. For 12 weeks, one group consumed 30 grams of roasted cashew nuts daily. Both groups received general dietary advice.
By the end of the study, participants in the first group showed a significant reduction in waist circumference and levels of oxidative stress — a condition linked to inflammation and cellular aging. However, their overall body weight did not change significantly.
Researchers attributed the effects to the high content of unsaturated fats, magnesium, and antioxidants in cashews. Magnesium helps protect muscles, boosts energy metabolism, and improves physical endurance. It also regulates blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity, thereby reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Unsaturated fats and antioxidants also contribute to metabolic protection — they help lower “bad” cholesterol, improve vascular health, and normalize blood pressure.
The scientists believe cashews can serve as an affordable and natural way to prevent metabolic and cardiovascular diseases in adolescents.
