Russia develops a pill “against all viruses”
The Russian pharmaceutical company Promomed has created a drug called Esperavir, described as a pill “against all viruses.” This was announced on Sputnik radio by Petr Bely, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Kira Zaslavskaya, Director of New Products.
According to Zaslavskaya, the new medicine blocks the virus replication cycle in the human body. It targets a specific enzyme known as complex RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which is essential for viral reproduction.
She noted that there are around 800 types of viruses in the world capable of infecting humans and causing cold-like symptoms.
“Fortunately, all of them are RNA viruses — very similar in structure and behavior,” Zaslavskaya explained.
She emphasized that the developed medicine blocks virus multiplication and destroys infected cells. As a result, the virus is eliminated from the body, leaving only healthy cells intact.
Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the epidemiological situation regarding acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) in Russia remains stable, although the share of influenza viruses among circulating pathogens is increasing.
