Sergey Lebedev Reappointed as CIS Secretary General for a Three-Year Term

Sergey Lebedev has been reappointed as the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for the next three-year term following a meeting of the Council of Heads of State in a narrow format.

This was reported by the Report news agency, citing Russian media.

"By decision of the Council of Heads of State in the narrow format, your humble servant has been appointed Secretary General of the Commonwealth for the next three-year period," said Sergey Lebedev.

Sergey Lebedev was first appointed Chairman of the Executive Committee — Executive Secretary of the CIS in October 2007. Since then, his powers have been extended several times.

Starting January 1, 2023, according to the decision of the CIS Council of Heads of State, the position's official title was changed to "Secretary General of the CIS."
