South African Akani Simbine has surpassed Bolt's record

According to a report by Track & Field Gazette, South African sprinter Akani Simbine has set a new record by running the 100 meters in under 10 seconds for 11 consecutive seasons.
With this achievement, he has surpassed the legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who managed to maintain such a performance for 10 seasons.
The 32-year-old athlete accomplished this feat at a Gold-level meet of the World Athletics Continental Tour held in Gaborone, Botswana. During the event, Simbine completed the 100-meter dash in 9.90 seconds.
However, he has yet to surpass Bolt’s world record, as the Jamaican remains the fastest man in history over the distance. Bolt’s personal best is 9.58 seconds, while Simbine’s fastest time is 9.82 seconds, recorded last year.
Despite his consistent speed and performance, Simbine has never won a gold medal at major international championships. His only individual global medal is a bronze in the indoor 60-meter race. At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he earned a silver medal as part of South Africa’s 4×100-meter relay team. In individual 100-meter Olympic finals, Simbine has narrowly missed the podium three times: finishing fifth at Rio 2016 and fourth at both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
