Study: Pomegranate Extract Increases Level of the "Youth Hormone" IGF-1

The 12-week study involved 72 volunteers aged 55 to 70. They were divided into two groups: one took capsules containing 740 mg of pomegranate extract daily, while the other received placebo capsules without the active ingredient.

By the end of the study, participants who took the pomegranate extract showed a significant increase in IGF-1 levels. IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1) plays a crucial role in cell regeneration, strengthening muscles and bones, as well as supporting cardiovascular health and brain function. IGF-1 levels typically decrease with age, leading to loss of strength, reduced vitality, and increased risk of age-related diseases.

However, the study found no significant effect of pomegranate extract on telomere length—protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that indicate cellular aging. Shorter telomeres are associated with faster cell aging.

The researchers emphasize that longer and larger-scale studies are needed to confirm the rejuvenating effects of pomegranate extract. Further research will also help identify potential risks or side effects from long-term use.
