The first “Central Asia + Japan” summit at the level of heads of state will be held on December 20
On December 20, a “Central Asia + Japan” summit with the participation of heads of state will be held in Tokyo. This was announced at the general meeting of the “Japan — Central Asia” Friendship League, reports Kyodo News.
At the meeting held on December 2, chaired by Taro Aso, Vice President of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, it was noted that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is actively coordinating preparations for the summit with the five Central Asian countries.
It is reported that within the framework of the summit, the Prime Minister of Japan will also hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of the Central Asian states.
For reference: over the past 20 years, discussions between the Central Asian countries and Japan in this format were held only at the ministerial level.
Within the framework of the 20th anniversary of the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue, it was planned to hold a summit at the presidential level in Kazakhstan in August 2024. However, due to a destructive earthquake in Japan at that time, the meeting was postponed, and its new date will be agreed upon later.
