EU Delivers Over €205,000 Worth of Specialized Vehicles for Canine Units in Turkmenistan

As part of the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), the European Union handed over two specialized vehicles to the State Border Service of Turkmenistan for use by canine units.

The total value of the equipment is €205,130.44. The official handover ceremony took place on August 20, as reported on the program’s website — bomca-eu.org

These vehicles are designed for transporting dog handlers and service dogs, significantly improving the mobility and operational efficiency of canine units. One vehicle will be used at the Central Canine Center in Ashgabat, and the other at the Horse and Canine Training Center of the Sergeant and Specialist Training School in Mary.

During the ceremony, EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Beata Peksa, highlighted the long-term cooperation between the EU and Turkmenistan in the area of border management. She reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Central Asian countries under the BOMCA 10 program.

Head of Turkmenistan’s Canine Service, Dovletmyrat Gurtlyyev, expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the vehicles will significantly enhance the preparedness of canine units across the country. He also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in strengthening the capabilities of border and customs canine services in the region.

The assistance was provided within the BOMCA program’s component on “Enhancing capacities in the area of investigation,” aimed at supporting law enforcement agencies in conducting investigative and operational activities.
