World’s Tallest Bridge to Open in Southwest China
This Sunday, September 28, 2025, the world’s highest bridge — spanning the Huajiang Grand Canyon — will officially open to traffic in China’s Guizhou province. The bridge has already been recognized as the tallest in the world.
Located on the Liuzhi–Anlong expressway, the bridge has a total length of 2,890 meters, with a main span of 1,420 meters and a height of 625 meters above the canyon floor. These record-breaking dimensions make it both the tallest and longest mountain bridge on Earth.
The main load-bearing steel structure consists of 93 segments with a combined weight of approximately 22,000 tons — roughly equivalent to two Eiffel Towers. Construction began in early 2022, and engineers successfully overcame the challenge of spanning the deep and rugged Huajiang Canyon.
Once opened, the bridge will reduce travel time across the canyon from two hours to just two minutes, significantly improving transportation in the region.
In addition to its engineering marvel, the bridge is designed to be a major tourist attraction, featuring pedestrian walkways, observation decks, and even base jumping facilities for thrill-seekers.
