Potatoes are one of the most popular and well-liked food products among people. The homeland of the potato is considered to be Peru, in South America. This crop began to be cultivated around 7,000 to 10,000 years ago. New potatoes are eaten boiled or fried. As a technical crop, potatoes are also used to produce alcohol and starch.

Potatoes contain essential vitamins such as C — 12, PP — 0.57, B1 — 0.11, B2 — 0.66, and B6 — 0.22, which help strengthen the human immune system. Additionally, about 80% of a potato is made up of water. Scientists have identified that potatoes also contain microelements such as zinc, bromine, manganese, iodine, boron, iron, magnesium, calcium, and others.

China and India are considered leading countries in potato production worldwide. Typically, potatoes can be stored for food use for about 5–6 months. After that period, they start to lose their nutritional value.
