Amu Darya State Nature Reserve: A Model Center for Studying and Protecting Nature

Under the wise leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, comprehensive programs are being implemented for environmental protection and scientific research of nature. Among the country's state nature reserves, the Amu Darya State Nature Reserve plays a leading role as a prominent center ensuring ecological safety and conducting scientific studies.

This day is a tribute to nature!

Celebrated annually on June 5, World Environment Day holds special importance for the reserve. Activities conducted in the Amu Darya Reserve on this day highlight successes in conservation, biodiversity preservation, and environmental science, aligning perfectly with the meaning of the occasion.

Scientific surveys and research on this day have recorded:

  • 175 species of birds,

  • 41 species of mammals,

  • 36 species of fish,

  • 29 species of reptiles,

  • and hundreds of other animal species.

The sighting of rare bird species such as the forest hoopoe further emphasizes the urgent need to protect natural habitats.

Scientific research — the foundation of conservation

Work carried out by the reserve’s scientists is aimed at studying the environment through evidence-based research and supporting the stability of ecosystems. These studies are compiled in the scientific chronicle titled “Nature’s Chronicle.”

The events organized on World Environment Day contribute to building ecological awareness and instilling a spirit of respect for nature in the younger generation. The activities of the Amu Darya State Nature Reserve are an example of this noble mission in action.
