At least 24 people killed due to floods in Texas

At least 24 people, including children, have died due to flooding caused by continuous heavy rains in the U.S. state of Texas, local authorities report. This was reported by ABC News and The New York Times.

According to The New York Times, another 25 people are missing. Among them are 23 campers from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp for girls located in the region.

To evacuate residents, helicopters, tactical equipment, and rescue teams were deployed by the Texas National Guard. According to the Guard’s head, Thomas Sultzer, 237 people have been rescued.

The flood occurred as a result of prolonged and intense rains, causing rivers and reservoirs to overflow in southern and central Texas. Some towns suffered damage to roads and infrastructure.

Authorities are urging citizens to follow safety precautions and avoid going to dangerous areas.
