Elon Musk: The Cost of Building a City on Mars Could Range from $1 Trillion to $1,000 Trillion

Famous entrepreneur Elon Musk, who is implementing new space programs, has revealed that the cost of building the first human city on Mars could be extremely high. According to his estimates, the total cost of this project could vary between $1 trillion and $1,000 trillion.

Musk stated that this cost is directly dependent on the advancement of rocket technologies. If technologies improve by a thousand times compared to the current state, construction expenses over 40 years could drop to approximately $1 trillion, or less than $25 billion per year.

The head of SpaceX said that the first Starship spacecraft is expected to be sent to Mars by the end of 2026. It is also planned that the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, will participate in this mission.

Elon Musk also revealed that he wants to name the first spacecraft to fly to Mars “Heart of Gold.” This name is chosen in honor of the famous science fiction book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by British author Douglas Adams.

Additionally, Musk responded to doubts expressed by Erik Berger, editor of Ars Technica magazine, regarding the success probability of the Starship project, emphasizing his strong confidence in his goal.

According to Elon Musk, humanity settling on Mars will not only be a scientific achievement but also a new beginning for global civilization.
