Turkmen Foreign Minister Held Talks with Marco Rubio in Washington
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, held an official meeting in Washington with Marco Rubio, the Acting Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Affairs and Secretary of State. The talks focused on bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on economic collaboration and security issues in Central Asia.
This was reported by Tommy Pigott, Deputy Head of the U.S. State Department’s Press Office, who noted that the meeting was held in a constructive and businesslike atmosphere.
Strengthening Economic and Trade Relations
According to Pigott, Marco Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ strong commitment to continued partnership with Turkmenistan, including the expansion of economic and trade ties and investment in joint projects. The parties discussed potential areas to increase trade volume and cooperation prospects in energy, transport, and the digital sector.
C5+1 as a Key Platform for Regional Dialogue
Special attention during the talks was given to promoting regional integration through the diplomatic platform C5+1, which brings together the five Central Asian countries and the United States. Both sides emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation aimed at regional stability, attracting investment, and countering transnational threats.
Security and Stability in Central Asia
The agenda also included issues of regional security, including the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and cyber threats. Both parties expressed mutual interest in enhancing cooperation between law enforcement agencies and exchanging experience in addressing modern security challenges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue dialogue at a high level and to hold new rounds of consultations in various areas. The Turkmen side expressed gratitude for support of sustainable development initiatives and readiness to strengthen strategic partnership with the United States.
