At a recent presentation in Los Angeles, co-founder and CEO Justin Fiaschetti stated that Arc will be pre-positioned in orbit for up to five years, ready to descend autonomously and deliver payloads up to 225 kg, primarily for the U.S. military.

Inversion was founded in 2021 by Justin Fiaschetti and Austin Briggs, then students at Boston University. Fiaschetti previously interned at SpaceX and Relativity Space, working on propulsion systems. Three years later, their 25-person team developed a test spacecraft called Ray, which launched in January as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-12 mission.

Weighing around 90 kg, Ray was built to test Inversion’s subsystems in space. It successfully performed orbital maneuvers using a bipropellant engine and continues to operate, periodically communicating with ground control. However, a controlled landing was not planned for Ray.

Despite this, the successful mission gave Inversion confidence to proceed with the larger Arc vehicle. Arc is about the size of a large table — 1.2 meters wide and 2.5 meters tall. The company plans to launch the first Arc by the end of 2026.
