Hajj 2026: Health Requirements Set by Saudi Arabia for Pilgrims

According to the Caucasus Muslims Board, the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued a document outlining the health regulations and preventive measures for pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah.

The document sets out the following requirements and recommendations:

General Health Requirements

Special attention is given to the health and safety of pilgrims. Therefore, individuals suffering from the following conditions are advised not to undertake the pilgrimage:

  • Chronic heart, kidney, or lung diseases

  • Chronic conditions of the central nervous system (e.g., post-stroke effects)

  • Diabetes, immunodeficiency, or other diseases that weaken the immune system

  • Pregnancy

  • Children and elderly individuals

  • Cancer patients or those undergoing chemotherapy

Infectious Disease Prevention Measures

  • Pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia may be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

  • The vaccine must be one approved by the Saudi health authorities.

  • Vaccination must be administered no more than 12 months before travel and no later than 10 days prior to arrival.

Depending on the global epidemiological situation, Saudi authorities may implement additional health measures.

Mandatory Vaccinations

a) Meningococcal Infection (Meningitis – ACWY)

  • Vaccination is mandatory for all pilgrims.

  • A quadrivalent (ACWY) meningococcal vaccine is required.

  • The vaccine must be administered at least 10 days before entry and no more than 3 years before travel.

  • An international vaccination certificate must be presented.

b) Other Recommended Vaccinations:

  • Seasonal influenza (flu)

  • Yellow fever and polio – for pilgrims arriving from countries where these diseases are prevalent

Border and Medical Screening

  • Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia, pilgrims may undergo medical checks at border entry points.

  • Health documents and vaccination certificates will be reviewed.

  • Additional preventive and sanitary measures may be applied if necessary.

General Health Recommendations

  • Follow personal hygiene and food safety guidelines.

  • Stay hydrated, protect yourself from heat, and get adequate rest.

  • Follow the instructions of group leaders and medical personnel.

  • Use medical face masks in crowded areas.

  • Seek medical assistance immediately if symptoms of illness appear.

Additional Notes

The Saudi Ministry of Health may introduce new requirements and vaccinations based on the global epidemiological situation.

These decisions will be regularly updated in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations.
