Japanese Companies Plan 60-Minute Space Flights from Tokyo to New York

The Japanese travel agency Nippon Travel Agency and startup Innovative Space Carrier (ISC) have agreed to commercialize a space travel project that could, in the future, connect Tokyo and New York in just 60 minutes via near-Earth space.

According to Report, citing foreign media, this was announced in a joint statement by the two companies.

The agreement signed this month includes the implementation of a long-term program called “SPACE Tour”, which envisions the gradual development of space tourism — from educational initiatives to suborbital and orbital flights by the 2030s.

According to Nippon Travel Agency, a round-trip ticket for a suborbital flight is expected to cost about 100 million yen (approximately US$657,000). The launches are planned to be conducted from offshore platforms, and the spacecraft’s engines and bodies will be reusable.
