Messi announces the creation of a new international tournament for young footballers

Eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and World Cup champion with Argentina’s national team, Lionel Messi, has announced the creation of a new tournament for youth teams — the Messi Cup. He shared the news on his Instagram page.

The tournament will take place from December 9 to December 14 in Miami (Florida, USA). According to Messi, top clubs from various countries have already confirmed their participation: from Argentina — River Plate and Newell’s Old Boys; from the USA — Inter Miami; from Spain — Barcelona and Atlético; from England — Chelsea and Manchester City; and from Italy — Inter.

Messi is 38 years old. Since 2023, he has been playing for Inter Miami. Throughout his career, he has played for Spain’s Barcelona and France’s Paris Saint-Germain, won the Spanish league title ten times, the Champions League four times, and the Club World Cup three times.

With Argentina’s national team, Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Copa América in 2021 and 2024, the Finalissima in 2022, and the Olympic Games in 2008.
