Mysterious Geomagnetic Storm Hits Earth — Russian Scientists Baffled
In the early hours of September 10, a sudden and unexplained geomagnetic storm was recorded on Earth, with no prior warnings or signs in official forecasts.

The information was shared by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) via their official Telegram channel.
"A completely unexplained and unexpected magnetic storm was registered. All forecasts were in 'green', showing no signs of activity," the scientists reported.
What Happened?
Usually, geomagnetic storms are caused by solar wind bursts or solar flares. However, this time, there were no disturbances in solar wind data — everything appeared normal.
"The mystery is not just in the event itself, but in the fact that even in hindsight, there's no clear explanation for what triggered such a strong magnetic response," noted the experts.
Possible Cause: A Large Substorm
The only plausible scientific explanation, according to researchers, could be the formation of an unusually large substorm — a process in which Earth's magnetosphere spontaneously releases energy without any external triggers.
First Such Event of 2025
This is reportedly the first large-scale geomagnetic event officially recorded in 2025. Scientists also noted that other similar events might have gone unnoticed due to high solar activity in recent months.
The storm is expected to subside within the next 3–6 hours.
