Parliamentary Forum Launched at the "Awaza" National Tourist Zone

Today, at the "Awaza" National Tourist Zone, within the framework of the third United Nations conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), a Parliamentary Forum was held.

The main goal of the forum is to share experiences related to the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action, as well as to create opportunities to assist parliamentarians in implementing the Awaza Programme of Action. The forum aims to accelerate the realization of the new programme by facilitating experience exchange, supporting the political work of parliamentarians at local, national, and regional levels, and developing and sharing specific recommendations to integrate the priority areas of the Decade Programme of Action into the legislative and other activities of parliaments of landlocked developing countries.

Parliaments of LLDCs play a crucial role in implementing the Awaza Programme of Action, considering their geographical position and focus on resolving related issues. As legislative bodies, parliaments ensure the adoption and enforcement of national laws that contribute to improving transport infrastructure, fostering regional cooperation, and strengthening economic stability.

Furthermore, parliamentarians act as a vital bridge between governments, civil society, and international partners by ensuring transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in the implementation of the Decade Programme of Action. Their active participation supports resource mobilization and coordination of activities at national and regional levels, which is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Additionally, LLDC parliaments hold key roles in monitoring and evaluating the Programme’s implementation, enabling timely identification of existing challenges and determination of strategic directions. By fulfilling their legislative and oversight functions, parliamentarians help create favorable conditions for investment and innovation.

This extensive forum, organized in cooperation between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the support of the United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, brought together representatives of state bodies and parliaments of LLDCs, as well as leaders and delegates of international organizations.
