Bayramgul Orazdurdyyeva: The median age of the population in Turkmenistan is 26.9 years

At the opening of the Youth Forum held within the framework of the third high-level United Nations conference on Least Developed Landlocked Developing Countries, held at the "Awaza" national tourist zone on August 4, 2025, Bayramgul Orazdurdyyeva, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, delivered an official speech.

In her speech, the Deputy Prime Minister drew attention to the demographic characteristics of least developed countries, including landlocked developing countries, noting that approximately 58% of their population is under 25 years old. She emphasized that young people are the main drivers of development and innovation.

Speaking about Turkmenistan, Orazdurdyyeva stated that the median age of the country’s population is 26.9 years, and that 40% of the population consists of young people aged between 10 and 29 years. She also noted that 37% of the deputies in Turkmenistan’s Mejlis are under 35 years old, which demonstrates the active participation of youth in state governance.

The Deputy Prime Minister also reviewed support measures created for young people: tax benefits for young professionals during their first three years, increased amounts of preferential loans for young families, and additional rights for young families regarding mortgage loans.

In her speech, she also spoke about the platform called "Dialogue of Youth of Central Asian Countries." The first meeting of this platform was held in October 2023 in the city of Arkadag, and the second meeting took place in April 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, with delegations from 45 countries participating.

The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted that this year Turkmenistan is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its permanent neutrality, which has been recognized three times by the UN, emphasizing that educating the younger generation in the spirit of peace and trust is fundamental to neutrality.
