Experts from Columbia University (USA) have developed a groundbreaking technology called "robotic metabolism" This technology enables robots to grow, recover from damage, and "feed" using elements sourced from the environment or other robots. Inspired by biology, the concept was implemented through Truss Link modular devices, which can self-assemble and transform into complex structures.

Compared to modern robots, which often have rigid and non-adaptive bodies, "robotic metabolism" opens a new era of physical autonomy for machines. According to Professor Hod Lipson, this technology is a key step toward creating future robot “ecosystems” capable of surviving and adapting in a wide range of environments — from rescue missions to the depths of outer space.
