Google releases app to run Hugging Face AI models directly on smartphones — no internet required
Google has introduced an experimental mobile app called AI Edge Gallery, which allows users to run Hugging Face AI models locally — right on their smartphones without an internet connection.

The app is already available for Android, and an iOS version is coming soon. Users can search, download, and use models for image generation, code writing and editing, as well as answering questions — all powered by the device’s processor without relying on the cloud.
What Google AI Edge Gallery can do:
Supports popular Hugging Face models, including Google Gemma 3n
Ready-made task templates with model recommendations
A Prompt Lab section for configuring custom prompts (e.g., text rewriting)
Fully offline operation
Performance depends on the device’s hardware and the size of the selected model: the larger the model, the longer the task will take. However, on modern smartphones with powerful processors, it runs quite smoothly.
AI Edge Gallery is currently released as an alpha version and is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license. You can download it from the official GitHub repository, including an APK installation file.
