The Head of State Met with the Federal President of Austria

As part of his working visit to the United States of America, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, held a meeting with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen.

During the meeting, it was noted that the Republic of Austria is one of Turkmenistan's longstanding and important partners in the European region. Relations between the two countries are steadily developing based on mutual respect, friendship, and understanding. The positive nature of political and diplomatic relations between the two countries was emphasized. At present, Turkmenistan and Austria are cooperating successfully not only on a bilateral basis but also multilaterally, particularly within the framework of the United Nations. The similarity of the two countries’ foreign policy principles, which are based on neutrality, serves as a foundation for coordinated actions at the international level.

Trade and economic cooperation is one of the priority areas. For many years, Austrian companies have been supplying Turkmen markets with advanced equipment for the transport sector, healthcare, chemical industry, and oil and gas sectors. The importance of the Turkmen-Austrian Joint Commission in realizing the full economic potential of both countries was noted.

Cultural and humanitarian cooperation plays an important role in strengthening interstate relations, bringing nations closer together, and enriching cultures mutually. Our peoples share a rich historical and cultural heritage. Turkmen musicians regularly participate in festivals held in Austria and successfully perform as part of symphonic orchestras. The hosting of the Vienna Ball in Turkmenistan has become a noble tradition — the sixth Vienna Ball was most recently held on October 10, 2024, in the city of Arkadag.

The Head of State emphasized that, at the initiative of Turkmenistan and in accordance with the resolution of the UN General Assembly, the year 2025 has been declared the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” which coincides with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's status of Permanent Neutrality. President Berdimuhamedov invited President Alexander Van der Bellen to attend the international forum to be held on December 12 in Ashgabat in honor of this significant occasion.

The President of the friendly country expressed his gratitude for the invitation and highlighted that Turkmenistan’s policy of neutrality contributes significantly to global peace and enjoys broad support from the international community.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen wished each other strong health and success in their responsible state duties, and peace and prosperity to the friendly peoples of both countries.
