Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Holds Several Meetings on the UN General Assembly Platform

On September 22, in New York City, within the framework of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

During the meeting, the current state of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States, as well as its prospects for future development, were discussed. Both sides emphasized that economic cooperation is a key direction in bilateral relations, particularly highlighting the importance of investment and technological collaboration.

The significance of the Turkmen-American Business Council, which unites leading American companies and supports the expansion of business ties, was also noted. Additionally, the parties exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues of mutual interest.

On the same day, within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, Rabab Fatima.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted Turkmenistan’s long-standing and effective strategic cooperation experience with the United Nations and its specialized agencies in various fields.

They discussed the successful holding of the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) from August 4 to 8, 2025, in Turkmenistan’s national tourist zone “Avaza” on the Caspian Sea coast, emphasizing that this event clearly demonstrates Turkmenistan’s active role in cooperation with the UN and its significant contribution to addressing global challenges.

The parties discussed the practical implementation of LLDC3’s key outcome documents — the “Avaza Political Declaration” and the “Avaza Programme of Action” for 2024–2034.

At the end of the meeting, they expressed their readiness to strengthen trust, expand international cooperation, and advance the global sustainable development agenda through joint efforts within the UN system.

Also, within the framework of the UN General Assembly’s anniversary session, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of Turkmen-Cuban relations in political-diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian fields. They reviewed cooperation within international organizations and stressed the importance of activating cooperation between the foreign policy institutions of both countries.

Prospects for cooperation in health care, agriculture, sports, tourism, and other sectors were also considered.

On the same day, within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

During the meeting, the parties discussed Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the UN system in priority areas aimed at ensuring global peace and strengthening international security.

Special attention was paid to the development of preventive diplomacy, including the work of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, and mechanisms for regional cooperation.

Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening mutual trust among states and promoting effective constructive dialogue at the international level, including the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, were highlighted.

The agenda of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is expected to include the item “Neutrality – For the Sake of Peace and Security,” alongside draft resolutions on “The Role and Importance of Neutrality Policy in Supporting and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development” and “International Day of Mediation.”
