The Hidden Danger of Strawberries: Doctor Warns
Spanish doctor and public health expert David Céspedes highlighted the high concentration of pesticides in strawberries. According to him, this fruit accumulates more chemicals than most other fruits and vegetables. He shared this information in an interview with Mirror.
Pesticides are chemicals used to kill or suppress pests such as insects, weeds, fungi, and other harmful organisms. They can also be used to combat carriers of infections that are dangerous to humans and animals. However, some pesticides can cause acute poisoning or contribute to the development of chronic diseases.
Many people believe that simply washing strawberries with water is enough to remove harmful substances.
“The most common mistake is to rinse berries for a few seconds under water and then store them wet in the refrigerator. This method does not remove pesticide residues and accelerates spoilage,” said Céspedes.
To reduce exposure to chemicals, he recommends soaking strawberries for 10 minutes in salted water or 3% vinegar solution, drying them thoroughly, and storing them in a well-ventilated container. Even small amounts of pesticides can be harmful over time, especially for children and people with weakened immune systems.
