World's Fastest Train CR450 Sets New Record by Reaching 453 km/h
The CR450 electric train, developed in China, has set a new record as one of the fastest passenger trains in the world. During recent tests, the train reached a speed of 453 km/h, surpassing previous records.
The train was introduced last year and is currently undergoing pre-launch testing. According to technical requirements, the CR450 must complete 600,000 kilometers of trial runs before it can be fully approved for passenger service.
Compared to earlier models, the CR450 introduces several improvements. For example:
-
The front section of the train, which was 12.5 meters long in the earlier Fuxing model, has been extended to 15 meters.
-
The shape has been made sharper and more aerodynamic to reduce air resistance.
-
The train has a fully enclosed structure, with the wheels almost completely hidden.
-
Its height has been reduced by 20 centimeters, and its overall weight has been decreased by 50 tons.
Over the past five years, the China Railway Research Institute has continuously worked on enhancing the train’s design. As a result, the overall aerodynamic drag of the train has been reduced by 22%.
The new CR450 can accelerate from 0 to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds, significantly faster than the previous Fuxing train, which took 6 minutes and 20 seconds.
China’s railway sector believes that this new technology will take high-speed passenger travel in the country to an entirely new level.
