China Begins Construction of Record-Breaking Solar Thermal Power Plant

In Golmud County, located in Qinghai Province in northwest China, construction has started on the world's largest single-module solar thermal power plant. The plant will have a capacity of 350 megawatts. The complex includes three heat-absorbing towers and one steam turbine, and its heliostat field, covering an area of 3.3 million square meters, will be the largest in the country. It is expected that the power plant will generate about 960 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 720,000 tons per year.

Full connection to the power grid is planned to be completed by the end of September 2027.
